Vladimir the Dragon is the mascot of UberCon! He's blue, he's big, and he enjoys all types of games and related mischief.
Where did Vlad Come From?
UberCon GM Kevin Jagh is a fan of fantasy artist Phil Foglio. While planning UberCon I, Kevin contacted Phil and they worked to develop our logo and the cover for the UberCon I program.
Basically, we asked Phil for a mascot. He came up with something typically laden with testosterone (and tentacles of course). We came back saying, "um, well... this is nice... but... we need something more huggable. Oh, it has to be smart. Oh, and powerful. Oh, and I like dragons. And it should be striking. Did I mention cute? Oh, and loyal." Phil came back with the blue dragon now known as Vladimir.
What is his personality?
Vlad is slightly arrogant, protective, smart, powerful, clearly a dragon, and chagrined when he loses (possibly enough to eat the little guy on the first edition cover). He reminds us quite a bit of Hobbes from the legendary comic strip.
What does he do?
He sits around obviously eating too much, playing games of course. Mostly he wins, but occasionally he is humbled. He also flirts, but not necessarily successfully. He's constantly bumbling along with plans for world domination, and is more often thwarted by tripping over his tail than with a planning or execution. As with conventions, Vladimir knows he is one Dragon amongst many, but feels that he is uniquely qualified to provide such organized, comprehensive and entertaining competition to so many people world wide.
